Just outside Melbourne’s city centre, Breathe Architecture have reimagined small-space living with Nightingale Preston Teilhaus (meaning 'part of house' in German)—a 28sqm/301sqft terrace home designed for affordability, sustainability, and community. Powered by 100% renewable energy, it features thermally efficient materials like cork flooring, exposed concrete and recycled brick tiles. The open-plan layout maximises space with a lofted sleeping area, a versatile nook below, and a spacious kitchen with durable, recyclable MDF and stainless steel cabinetry. A bright living area flows onto an enclosed deck, seamlessly extending the space. Thoughtfully designed communal areas—including a rooftop garden, shared dining spaces, and a bathhouse—foster connection and belonging. Nightingale Preston is an innovative, forward-thinking response to climate, community, and the future of housing.
